Get ready for the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, the qualification you need for a CSCS green Labourer card. Learn it, practise it and check yourself, all in one place. Free.
Five sections, matching the five parts of the Level 1 Award.
→ Risk assessment: hazard and risk, risk assessments and method statements, the cost of getting it wrong, and reporting accidents, near misses and RIDDOR
→ Safe manual handling: why it matters, how to lift safely, the aids that take the weight, and what protects you
→ Working at height: what counts, whose duty is what, ladders, towers, scaffolds and MEWPs, and the Work at Height Regulations
→ Risks to health: hazardous substances and COSHH, safe storage and hygiene, asbestos and asbestos waste, PPE, and drugs and alcohol
→ Plant and equipment: what plant can do to you, keeping people and plant apart, the hierarchy of controls, and safety signs
22 short lessons, each with the teaching, the key facts, the key words, a quiz and flashcards. In between, you practise: 37 interactive tasks, from sorting hazards and reading safety signs to walking through real site scenarios, plus written short answers marked by AI with feedback on what you missed. Every section ends with a section quiz, games and a recap that pulls it all together.
Not on its own. This course helps you learn and practise everything in the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. It isn’t that qualification, and it doesn’t give you a CSCS card. To apply for the green Labourer card you sit the Award itself with an approved training centre, and you also need to pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test.
Yes, for now. Create an account and the whole course is open. You need an account so your progress saves and your short answers can be marked.
Anyone starting out in construction: new starters, apprentices before their first day on site, and learners booked on the Level 1 Award who want to be ready for it. Colleges and training centres can use it to support their learners too.
