Plumbing apprentices commonly start training at 16 or 17. PlumbMate is designed with that age range in mind, following the principles of the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code):
- Direct paid subscriptions restricted to users aged 18 or over.
- Under-18s access only via a college subscription (with the college acting as data controller) or a parent/guardian account.
- No behavioural advertising of any kind, to anyone.
- No profiling of children's data for marketing purposes.
- Highest privacy settings applied by default.
- No "nudge" mechanics designed to extract unnecessary personal data.
Tutor accounts can see learner engagement and progress within their own college, supporting the safeguarding oversight responsibilities colleges already have. Full detail in our Privacy Policy.
The technical controls below are documented in a written Information Security Policy and underpin our Cyber Essentials certification:

FE colleges have legal obligations under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (commonly "WCAG 2.2 AA"). Tools recommended to students should meet the same bar.
PlumbMate has been audited and remediated against WCAG 2.2 AA across 100+ pages and components. We publish an open Accessibility Statement covering known issues, contact routes and our remediation commitments.
